ARSENAL has stripped Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the captaincy at the Emirates.
The striker was dropped in the 3-0 win over Southampton on Saturday after returning late from an authorized trip to France.
Arsenal confirmed on their website: “Following his latest disciplinary breach last week, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will no longer be our club captain, and will not be considered options for Wednesday’s game against West Ham United.
“We expect all of our players, especially our captain, to work to the rules and standards that we have set and agreed to.
“We are fully focused on tomorrow’s game.”
The Gunners have yet to confirm who Aubameyang’s successor will be.
Alexandre Lacazette wore the armband during Saturday’s win over the Saints.
Asked about Aubameyang’s omission at the weekend, boss Mikel Arteta said: “It was a disciplinary breach and that’s why he was dropped from the team.
“I think we have been very consistent that we have some non-negotiables in the team that we have positioned ourselves as a club.
“Let’s talk about the game.
“I will focus on the performance and what the team did on the pitch.
“You’re not going to take anything else from me that happened in the dressing room.”
Arteta added: “It starts today. But it’s certainly not an easy situation, one where we want to have our club captain.”
Gabon star is understood to have been given permission travel abroad earlier this week because of a family matter, but then report back late from there.
New UK regulations mean travelers need to self-isolate upon return until they receive their PCR test results for the coronavirus, which is also believed to have caused the crash.
