Athena on Netflix Release Date, Cast, Synopsis and More

A new Netflix film described as a modern day Greek tragedy is coming to the streaming service this fall. Athena Directed by Romain Gavras.

This is the filmmaker’s third feature film. Gavras also serves as producer and co-wrote the screenplay with Ladj Ly and Elias Beldeddar. Also serving as producers are Charles-Marie Anthonioz, Mourad Belkeddar, Jean Duhamel and Nicolas Lhermitte.

Release date of Athena

The film premieres on Netflix on Friday September 23, 2022. It will be released at 12:00 p.m. PT / 3:00 p.m. ET. The total running time of the film is 97 minutes.

Athena summary

Hours after the tragic death of their youngest brother in mysterious circumstances (allegedly a run-in with the police), the lives of three siblings are thrown into chaos. French soldier Abdel is recalled from the front to find his family torn apart. He is caught between his younger brother Karim, who seeks revenge, and his older brother Moktar’s criminal activities.

As Abdel struggles to calm rising tensions and the situation escalates, their community Athena comes under siege and becomes a scene of tragedy for the family and beyond. The death of her brother ignites an all-out war in the community, centered on the boy’s three older brothers.
