There are entry requirements – and even an NFT-based dress code – that users must meet in order to get into Decentraland’s casino.
The revenue is real – Decentraland raised almost $8 million from hapless meta players in just three months – but unlike a land based casino, the traditional currency isn’t going to cut it.
ICE is the in-game cryptocurrency and is measured in “chips”.
Users receive chips based on the number of wearable NFTs their avatar is adorned with.

A user’s ICE grip increases as they complete challenges such as: B. playing a certain number of hands or excelling in games and topping leaderboards.
Decentraland’s casino has taken over the traffic steering wheel.
Around 30% of Decentraland’s daily visitors are there to try their luck and place bets.
“At any point in time we have over 1,000 players playing poker,” Miles Anthony, founder of Decentraland Games, told CoinDesk.
“That doesn’t sound like a lot of users, but when it comes to the open metaverse, it’s quite remarkable considering the main problem with metaverses right now is that they’re empty,” added Anthony.
Gambling, in virtual or traditional reality, is on the rise as New York State pledges $3.1 billion in action just months after legalizing online betting.

The casino is the latest take on a real-world activity to become actionable in the metaverse.
Interested gamers do not need a virtual reality headset, but are encouraged to enjoy the full experience.
