At least four dead after the bus went off the road and fell over the bridge into a raging river in heavy rain

FOUR people have died and more are missing after a bus plunged into a river while crossing a bridge.

The accident happened in the northwestern Spanish region of Galicia, near Vigo and the border with Portugal.

For reasons that are still unclear, the bus left the roadway on the bridge and crashed into the water around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.

The accident happened “at a point with a steep incline,” making access difficult, a Guardia Civil spokesman said in the city of Pontevedra, about 18 miles from the scene of the accident.

Emergency services said two bodies were recovered, while two others, including the bus driver, were rescued and taken to hospital.

The Spanish Civil Guard later said two more bodies were found on Sunday.

The woman’s body was recovered, but a man’s body had yet to be found.

“There could have been more people on the bus,” the emergency services said on Twitter and posted a photo of the vehicle in the choppy sea.

The river stayed above its overflow threshold all night.

This forced rescue workers to suspend operations for nearly two hours due to poor weather and terrain conditions before resuming in the morning.

The Civil Guard said the bus driver tested negative for alcohol.

It comes after seven people were killed in a horror accident when a bus collided with two trucks before bursting into flames in November.

The tragic accident happened in Tutak in eastern Turkey and sparked a massive fire that engulfed the three vehicles.

Shocking footage showed thick black smoke billowing from the scene.

In October, 18 people died, including children, near Karachi, Pakistan, after the bus taking flood victims home caught fire.

They were met on their way home after fleeing the areas hardest hit by the floods.
