At least five people were killed and ten injured after a gunman opened fire outside the synagogue in Jerusalem

At least five people have been shot dead in a suspected terrorist attack on a synagogue in Jerusalem.

The gunman is believed to have been shooting at people as they exited the building in the Yaakov district of the Israeli capital.

Police said the gunman was killed by security forces after trying to flee the scene.

The Israel Rescue Service said ten people were injured in the incident, which police described as a “terrorist attack”.

Police say the gunman got to the synagogue by car before aiming at people.

A handgun used in the attack is believed to have been confiscated.

The shooting follows a deadly raid by the Israeli military on Thursday in the occupied West Bank that killed nine Palestinians, a tenth later north of Jerusalem.
