At least 14 dead, including a 5-year-old boy, and 16 injured after a violent Christmas weekend in the US
A HUGE Christmas weekend has left at least 14 dead and another 16 injured in shootings across the US.
A child under five in Kansas City was among the growing list of victims, while cities like Denver, Philadelphia and Chicago were also rocked by gun violence.
The young Kansas boy sustained a gunshot wound on Christmas Eve in what police believe was an accident.
The police arrived, found the child seriously injured and carried out life-saving measures.
Unfortunately, he died later that night, The Kansas City Star reported.
Six people died in Colorado this weekend due to gun crimes that have rocked communities.
Officials in Aurora, Colorado are now investigating two double homicides, both committed on Christmas Eve.
Police were called to a property on the 1500 block of Boston Street Saturday following reports of a welfare check, the Denver Post reports.
Upon arrival, they found two adults with obvious gunshot wounds.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
So far no arrests have been made and investigators are trying to clarify the relationship between the two victims.
And later that same day, officers were called into a shooting in the 17500 block of East Tennessee Place.
Investigators found two men with gunshot wounds outside the property.
They were taken to the hospital, where they died shortly thereafter.
No arrests were made.
In Thornton, Colorado, a couple were found shot dead in what is believed to be a murder-suicide at a Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall, police said.
Officials said it was reported that an adult woman was shot and killed by an adult man, who then turned the gun on himself.
Thornton Police also confirmed that the two were married and were also former members of the Kingdom Hall congregation.
A man was also fatally shot in the Mall of America on Friday.
Customers and NFL players caught in the chaos fled to safe rooms before Bloomington police arrived and secured America’s largest mall during a Christmas shopping spree.
Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said he could not identify the victim but confirmed he was a 19-year-old black man.
At least seven people, including a teenager, were shot dead during multiple shootings over Christmas weekend in Chicago.
A 55-year-old man was shot in the hand Saturday night in the first shooting of the holiday weekend, CBS reported.
Police said he was taken to a local hospital and listed in good condition.
Less than half an hour later, another man, 48, was hit in the hand by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials confirmed that he was also taken to a hospital in good condition.
Later in the night, an officer opened fire on three suspects after witnessing a shootout, beating two people.
A 54-year-old man and a 17-year-old teenager were shot and are in unknown condition.
Another 32-year-old man was shot late Saturday night after a man opened fire during an argument.
Police say he is in good condition.
And two others were hit in shootings early Sunday morning. Both were reported by police to be in good condition.
Shootings in Detroit also claimed the lives of two people and injured three others.
Officials were responding to reports that a person was downstairs around 7:48 a.m. Sunday morning, The Detroit News reported.
They discovered someone dead in a car with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, police said. Officials did not provide any further information about the incident.
Later that afternoon, police officers responded to another call reporting that someone had been shot.
Detroit police again found someone dead but could not provide further details.
And in two other shootings on Saturday, three were injured, according to police.
Two were shot dead around 3.15pm on Saturday. One was left in critical condition while the other is stable, police officers said.
Just a few hours later, another person was shot and seriously injured. The circumstances of the shooting are unclear.
A man was shot dead at a Sheraton hotel in Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, CBS reported.
According to police, the man was hit in the forehead and died at the scene. No arrests were made.
At least three people were shot and sustained injuries this weekend in Hartford, Connecticut, following three separate shootings.
A man and woman were shot dead in Durham, North Carolina on Christmas Day, WTVD reported.
While the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said the man sadly succumbed to his wounds.
A teenager was also injured in a shooting on Christmas Eve in Baltimore.
The 16-year-old boy was a walk-in shooting victim who required treatment at a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
Another man was found dead in West Oakland, California, Sunday morning, according to The Mercury News.
In Phoenix, Arizona, police are investigating a shooting that left a man life-threatening on Saturday.
And in Florida, a congressman was fatally shot during a Christmas Eve standoff.
Officers arrive at a Fort Walton Beach townhouse to serve a domestic violence arrest warrant on a man.
The man refused to cooperate and started shooting from inside the house.
He then allegedly punched an Okaloosa County sheriff’s deputy, who later succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect was eventually hit in the arm and arrested. He is in prison and has been denied bail.
