Newcastle, without a win in their opening 13 games, have just six points at the third stage of the campaign.

And to chill the blood and bones of Toon Army, SunSport crunched the numbers and discovered that NO team with less than 7 points at this milestone in the season has ever survived.

In the previous 29 campaigns since Prem’s split from the Football League in 1992-93, eight teams have had six points or less in 13 games.

ALL of them suffered a drop, with six out of eight also completing the bottom of the Prem pile.

It puts even more pressure on Howe and his struggles as they prepare for terrifying clashes with relegation rivals Norwich and Burnley this week.

Can’t get at least four points and it will start to get harder for Newcastle to pull themselves back into the scrap to survive even though they have enough money to spend in January.

Earlier this week, Howe admits he is concerned Newcastle’s plight could see them struggle to land top stars in the January transfer window.

Howe will be offered around £50m to spend but, beyond a safe six, he knows how difficult it will be to get a signing without an immediate upside trend.

Toon’s new boss denies claims by talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor that ‘the players don’t want to live in Newcastle… .they want to be near London’.

But he said: “I’ve heard from everyone how great this area is to live.

“We will have no problem attracting players to Newcastle for so many reasons. I don’t think that will be an issue.

“The problem is our league position in attracting players in January.

“It is very difficult to make any promises in the sense that we will definitely spend money and sign players.

“You have to attract players, they have to want to come and they have to be the right players to improve the squad.

“That’s why January is an extremely difficult time to sign players, especially when your position in the league is struggling.

“I can’t make any promises about that but I can promise that the people above me, the owners, will support the whole team and me in trying to get what we need.

“But we can’t focus on that yet.

“We will have a group of players that we have until January – we need to get more out of them and help them in any way we can.

“I still believe we have the players we need to get results.”
