Xhaka’s yellow card against Leeds investigated by the National Crime Agency
Granit Xhaka’s yellow card against Leeds in December is under investigation by the National Crime Agency after a £65,000 bet was placed on his caution, he writes KealanHughes.
It follows a six-month investigation by the FA after being made aware of the incident by leading bookmakers.
The Arsenal star, 29, was booked for wasting time in the 86th minute of the Premier League game at Elland Road.
Xhaka delayed a free-kick as the Gunners led the game 4-1, prompting referee Andre Marriner to show him a yellow card.
Bookmakers were alerted after a £65,000 bet was placed during the game that he would be booked for the game. It won the player £250,000.
There was never any evidence of wrongdoing by Xhaka or any other Arsenal player as the investigation failed to look into the midfielder’s conduct.
In January, a betting source told SunSport: “This bet was shown to all bookmakers because it was so big and it paid out.
“The investigation looks more into the bet than Xhaka’s behavior – it’s not uncommon for him to be carded at all.”
