And with Tuesday night’s transfer deadline fast approaching, it looks like they’re on the verge of a breakthrough.

Fresneda, 18, is also wanted by Newcastle’s top four rivals.

Borussia Dortmund has also applied.

However, it is believed he has his heart set on Arsenal after missing training this week.

And he was absent as Valladolid secured a late 1-0 win over Edinson Cavani’s Valencia on Sunday.

Sky Sports claim Fresneda was not involved due to ongoing negotiations between Valladolid and the Gunners.

His club are believed to be open to doing business with Mikel Arteta’s side.

But they are pushing for Fresneda to see the rest of their season on loan.

And although Arsenal would prefer an immediate transfer, they could concede to Valladolid’s demands in order to complete a deal.

Arteta already has Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu on his right side.

However, a full agreement cannot be reached by the deadline.
