But with both sides tied at 1-1 after 45 minutes, Xhaka took it upon himself to apologize to the rest of the dressing room.

The incident in question happened while preparing for Tottenham’s equalizer from the penalty spot.

Xhaka failed to clear his lines just before Gabriel brought Richarlison into the area.

And Anthony Taylor gave the penalty before Harry Kane passed Aaron Ramsdale.

According to The Mail, Xhaka took responsibility for the goal when the players went into the break.

He then left and atoned for the mistake in the second period, scoring Arsenal’s third goal as they finished off Spurs’ 10-man after Emerson Royal’s sacking.

Xhaka appeared to be leaving Arsenal in 2019 after being stripped of the captaincy.

His relationship with the Gunners faithful seemed untenable as a move seemed imminent.

But he stuck it out at the club and is now an important part of Mikel Arteta’s team.

Arsenal are at the top of the Premier League table, one point ahead of champions Manchester City.

They host Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday before a home game against Liverpool on Sunday.
