Arsenal icon Ian Wright SLAMS Man Utd treat Jesse Lingard but Roy Keane thinks the star should have quit last summer

IAN WRIGHT has criticized Manchester United for their treatment of Jesse Lingard – but Roy Keane thinks the striker should have left Old Trafford last summer.

After the temporary boss Ralf Rangnick disclosure Lingard asked for a break to ‘clear the mind’, the 28-year-old ace press again to decline the request.

Lingard refused to move the deadline date by the club after initially being told he would be able to leave.

West Ham and Newcastle both are linked and the fact that he’s not allowed to leave doesn’t suit Arsenal legendary OKwho sided with Lingard.

Wright also revealed the fact that Rangnick had publicly asserted Lingard had requested leave for personal reasons and that the club had failed in their duty of care.

The aforementioned Arsenal legend ITV: “I can’t understand why they said that. He was told by a bunch of people that he didn’t want to play for the club.

“Where [duty of care] in there?

“I think it’s not fair about what he wants to do, what he’s trying to do in terms of maybe he wants to leave the club.

“He wanted to go on loan, whatever it was, they turned him down on loan and in a World Cup year, someone if they do well could be back in the World Cup.

“There were a lot of things that really went wrong on both sides if you look at things, because he needed to play.

“Obviously he needs to play and I think he thought he was going to be on loan.”

Keanehowever, don’t see it the same way.

The United icon argued that Lingard ‘should have taken’ the chance to leave permanently last summer following his impressive spell at West Ham.

Lingard was promised more playing time after starring in East London, but has already started ZERO Premier League matches this season.

And Keane said, in his usual unfriendly fashion: “He should have gone last summer, end of story.

“He got his chance. He played some games, proved what he was, went to West Ham and ran away rather than play a lot.

“People get bogged down in contract talks. He wants to leave, he wants to go free but you have to play the games.

“He can complain all he wants, it’s not ideal between Jesse and the club at the moment.

“Last summer was his chance, he should have taken it.”
