Arsenal have received almost twice as many red cards as all rivals Prem since Mikel Arteta took over following Xhaka’s sacking.

GRANIT XHAKA’s game against Liverpool on Thursday saw Arsenal receive their third red card under Mikel Arteta.

Xhaka was ordered to march because a hip-height kick at Diogo Jota in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final 0-0 caused a deadlock at Anfield.

The appearance was Arsenal’s 13th in all competitions under Arteta – NO. 5 more than any other Premier League team.

Arteta took over in December 2019, so in just over two years the Gunners have received almost twice as many red cards as anyone else.

Southampton are the next least disciplined team with 8 red shirt teams, but The Saints are not equal to Arsenal in a total of 13 cases of dismissal.

Manchester City and Brighton are tied for third place, with seven red cards each as of December 2019.

Luckily for Xhaka his most recent moment of frenzy at Anfield didn’t end too expensive, as teammates rallied to cling to a precious clean sheet.

That’s exactly the kind of tough, gritty performance that hasn’t been present in Arsenal’s game in recent years.

Summer signing Ben White beat man-of-the-match thanks to a stellar performance in defence, but for one man the Gunners were brilliant.

And it means all to play for the second leg at the Emirates next week.

Xhaka apologizes to Arsenal fans after the match for potentially costing his side a draw.

He wrote: “I want to apologize to everyone. I am very proud of my team and the spirit they showed to keep a clean sheet tonight.”

Arsenal’s thirteenth departure under Arteta comes just days after they set the unwanted record of The first team in the Premier League to reach 100 red cards.

Gabriel’s red card on New Year’s Day was his 100th Premier League game for Arsenal.

And taking that opportunity, it cost them, as the Gunners took the lead in the first half to lost 2-1 at home to Manchester City.
