Arsenal frustrated by Nottingham Forest’s insane £42.5m Gibbs-White transfer for failing Neto pursuit of Gunners

ARSENAL were frustrated late in the transfer window with a scuppering move to Nottingham Forest’s Pedro Neto.

The Gunners wanted to bring in Neto to add some more firepower to their squad.

However, the move collapsed when Wolves increased the winger’s price following Morgan Gibbs-White’s departure.

Gibbs-White has been sold to Forest for a fee that could reach £42.5million, but that requires all the deal’s add-ons to be met, with the upfront fee being just £25million.

According to The Athletic, the move “set alarm” at Arsenal as they knew Wolves could raise their price for Neto.

And that is exactly what happened when Wolves demanded £50m for the 22-year-old, which was more than Arsenal were willing to pay.

Ultimately, Arsenal were unable to add any more signings to their squad, despite also making three bids to try to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest added a staggering 21 players to their squad as they practically built Steve Cooper’s team from scratch.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis sanctioned a spending spree for the ages as the two-time European champions outspent European heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

In fact, the more than £150m they spent this summer was more than the rest of the club’s entire 157-year history combined.

Forest started the season with four points from three games but have since gone without a win with three losses along the way – including a sensational 2-0 lead against relegation favorites Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are coming off their first defeat of the season, a 3-1 loss to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United at Old Trafford.

New striker Gabriel Jesus has urged his team-mates to put the disappointment behind them and return to winning ways in the next game.
