Arsenal ‘falling in love’ with Alexander Isak but Mikel Arteta will have to battle Man Utd and Liverpool for £75m transfer

ARSENAL is said to be facing competition from Manchester United and Liverpool in the race to take the Alexander Isak award away from Real Sociedad in the summer.

SunSport last month exclusively revealed that the Swedish striker is one of Mikel Arteta’s key targets in the upcoming transfer window.

The Gunners are desperate to strengthen their attack after letting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang join Barcelona in January.

And the North London side will lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

It is understandable that Arsenal will have to pay Isak’s £75m release clause to bring him back to the Emirates.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Arsenal still want to sign the 22-year-old after failing to sign him in the winter transfer window.

They say that Arteta’s side ‘love’ the player because they want to secure his service.

Although there is a blow for Arsenal, it is said that both United and Liverpool are also weighing the possibility of acquiring Isak.

It is reported that Sociedad knows they may have to part ways with their former Borussia Dortmund ex in the summer.

And AS confirmed moving to the UK is the most likely option.

Isak announced in November he hopes to play in England’s top leagues in the near future.

He told the Independent: “I’m in a good position at the moment, I’m very happy, but one day it would also be nice to play in England.

“They have the six or seven biggest clubs in the world, that’s a very high level, and of course one day it will be an alternative.

“Every player wants to be the best version of themselves and reach the highest level possible.

“People will always count the number of goals, I want to score, but I want to be a modern striker.

“I love to play and that means getting involved as much as possible. I think that’s why Spain is a great fit for me.”

Despite his obvious talent, Isak has struggled in front of goal this season.

He was successful with just four La Liga goals and two assists from 23 appearances.
