Arsenal defender Gabriel appears to be attacking the club’s ‘ungrateful’ fans who have criticized the decision to hand Nketiah a new deal

ARSENAL defender Gabriel Magalhaes and club legend Ian Wright appear to have slammed some Gunners supporters after criticizing the decision to offer Eddie Nketiah a new deal.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move from the Emirates as his contract expired this summer.

But the Gunners announced on Saturday that the forward has now agreed a new long-term deal to keep him in north London.

The club also presented Nketiah with the No 14 shirt – worn by club legend Thierry Henry.

It was a welcome move for many Arsenal fans as fellow strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have both left in the last 12 months.

But others felt it was a mistake to keep Nketiah, an opinion that seemed to offend Gabriel.

Minutes after Nketiah’s deal was confirmed, he tweeted: “How can you be so ungrateful! OMG 🙃.”

And the centre-back also likes a tweet praising the decision to give Nketiah the new contract.

It read: “Don’t let the vocal haters fool you.

“Many of us are happy about the contract extension and don’t care about the shirt number ❤️.”

Meanwhile, an irate Wright responded to a comment that read: “Not good enough for the number 14. We should have let him go for nothing, it’s a waste of time and money.”

Wright replied, “What is a number? Why don’t you say anything if you don’t have anything positive to say to our players?

“You can never call yourself an Arsenal fan with a negativity of that nature? Would you say that to Eddie’s face? If not, STFU.”

Nketiah has scored 23 goals in 92 games for Arsenal – including 10 in 27 games last season.

Still, the young striker, who remains at the club, hasn’t stopped talking about adding another attacker to the squad.

And Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus is heavily linked with Arsenal.

It has been reported that the Gunners have finally matched City’s asking price of £50m.
