MIKEL ARTETA has been dealt a blow in his pursuit of Noussair Mazraoui after the Ajax star reportedly ‘completed’ a Bayern Munich medical.
Arsenal are said to have been keen to recruit the contractless right-back to rival Takehiro Tomiyasu.
But after talks with Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann and CEO Oliver Kahn, Mazraoui decided to work with the Bundesliga champions.
According to the German magazine, the 24-year-old has now successfully completed his medical training at the club picture.
And while he hasn’t officially penned the deal yet, the terms are fully agreed between Bayern and Mazraoui.
An official announcement is expected in the coming days, forcing Arsenal to pursue alternative targets.
Mazraoui announced back in January that he was likely to leave Ajax in the summer – and walked out the door together with Erik ten Hag.
That had alerted the Gunners to the possibility of signing the Moroccan international.
Barcelona were also reportedly keen on adding Mazraoui to their ranks.
But it is Bayern Munich who have now won the race for his signature.

Further reports had claimed Ten Hag was keen to take Mazraoui to Ajax, but he is now targeting Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries instead after missing the Moroccan.
Mazraoui has made 33 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals and providing four assists from right-back.
Under new Manchester United manager Ten Hag, he has been an integral part of Ajax’s success this season.
The club are currently four points clear at the top of the Eredivisie table with four games of the season remaining.
