Arsenal are keen to tie Eddie Nketiah to a new contract, with talks moving forward on a new long-term deal

ARSENAL are reportedly struggling desperately to keep Eddie Nketiah at the club.

It seemed almost certain that the 22-year-old forward would continue on his expiring contract this summer.

But Nketiah has pushed his way into the starting XI at the expense of Alexandre Lacazette in recent weeks.

And that confidence has been repaid as he has scored four goals in his last five games.

According to The Mirror, the Gunners are “pulling out all the stops” to convince the young forward his career lies in the Emirates.

Nketiah has held further talks with Arsenal with Arteta said to be ‘desperate to hold on to the striker’.

But there are plenty of clubs waiting in the wings and SIX Premier League sides are ready to make their move.

Crystal Palace, West Ham, Brighton and Newcastle are four of the six prospects.

There is also interest from Germany.

If Arsenal lose Nketiah, they could turn their attention to Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

The 24-year-old has scored 23 goals this season and has reportedly been a target for the Gunners.

Arsenal were keen to sign Martinez last year but fell through in their efforts to recruit him in a £275,000-a-week deal.

To ward off any attention, Inter handed Martinez a new long-term deal back in October, keeping him at the club until 2026.

And although the Gunners reignited interest in the Argentina international’s services earlier this month, his agent Alejando Camano has insisted he will NOT leave the club this summer.

He said Martinez is “happy” at Inter and focused on helping the club retain their Serie A crown before turning his attention to the World Cup.
