ANTHONY JOSHUA was urged not to be shy of the gun in his high-stakes rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.
The Watford warrior will look to reclaim the unified heavyweight titles from the undefeated Ukrainian in a potentially career-defining showdown in Saudi Arabia on August 20.
The 32-year-old AJ unwisely attempted to outsmart the slick southpaw in their Tottenham clash last December and ended up suffering a lopsided points loss.
And promoter Eddie Hearn believes the Brit’s path to becoming a three-time heavyweight champion is through his use of calculated aggression.
The Matchroom Boxing boss said: “I don’t think you can just be aggressive against Oleksandr Usyk, but you definitely have to be aggressive.
“He has to let his hands go more. He has to damage Oleksandr Usyk whenever he can and he has to break his rhythm.”
Joshua hit Usyk with the few powerful shots he landed in his poor title defense at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Uysk’s reactions to the punches were telling for Hearn, who added: “I don’t think Oleksandr Usyk likes being hit.
“I don’t think he liked being hit first in the first fight and he didn’t get hit that often.
“So AJ has to take the risk when they present and he has to be smarter. But he has to let go of his hands.”

Joshua has enlisted the services of world champion trainer Robert Garcia for the biggest fight of his pro career.
And Hearn thinks the addition of the renowned trainer – along with the 12 rounds AJ had with his fellow Olympian – is a sure recipe for fireworks.
He said: “I think this fight will be a lot more exciting than the first one because AJ shared 12 rounds with Usyk.
“And he understands the skills he has and the attributes of Oleksandr Usyk and he has to negate that with his fortune.
“That’s his power, speed and punch combo. Easier said than done.
“But certainly I think you’re going to see a much more aggressive Anthony Joshua in this fight.”
