Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk 2 Fight money and prize money: how much does each fighter earn in Saudi Arabia?

ANTHONY JOSHUA faces the fight of his life as he tries to defy the odds and regain the heavyweight belts he lost to Oleksandr Usyk last year.

Outclassed in a unanimous loss at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year, AJ knows he needs to improve if he meets the Ukrainian again in Jeddah.

That loss may have deprived the Watford-born fighter of a huge payday against fellow countryman Tyson Fury.

But there’s still a significant amount of cash awaiting him in his rematch against Usyk in Saudi Arabia.

How much will Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk make from their fight in Saudi Arabia?

Joshua and Usyk have reportedly struck the biggest site deal ever, with Saudi Arabia agreeing to pay £65million to stage the fight.

That surpassed the £50million the Saudis paid for Joshua’s rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019.

However, AJ will not earn as much as he did in the Ruiz fight.

That’s because the wallet is shared 50/50 with Usyk.

Joshua’s first fight with Ruiz was a voluntary defense and therefore his team was able to insert a mandatory rematch clause that earned him the bulk of the prize money even after losing the first fight in Vegas.

However, Usyk was a mandatory challenger and agreed to insert a rematch clause only if the second purse was split evenly.

Amid some criticism of the Saudi deal, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn told talkSPORT: “Honestly, boxing is not golf [a reference to Saudi-backed LIV Golf].

“You’re dealing with people who are putting themselves at risk, putting their health at risk.

“It’s also a 50/50 split, by the way, so we have absolutely no choice.

“We would have loved to have done that fight in London at Tottenham because it gives a fighter home advantage.

“But you know what? Usyk’s team wasn’t really ready to go to London when there was four or five times the money to go elsewhere.

“It’s a very interesting debate. I’ve seen all the things that go on on the PGA Tour. I repeat – this is not a golf game.

“I have a responsibility to ensure these fighters come out of this sport with enough financial security to ensure the next generation.”
