Anthony Joshua has said he should sack the ENTIRE team of ‘back slapping and ass kissing’ and go ‘back to basics’ after Usyk’s defeat

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been called upon to sack the “back pats and ass kisses” from his team.

The Brit suffered a second loss to Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia last month.

AJ, 32, is now in talks to fight Tyson Fury later this year in the UK.

If he wants to be successful, former featherweight champion Barry McGuigan feels he needs to make big changes.

The 61-year-old Irishman told Boxing King Media: “Joshua just needs to take a little time off, cool his head, get his team in order, get rid of the back slapping and the ass kissing – and there’s plenty of that…

“Send the whole damn lot of them out, take out half a dozen of the most important people on his team and that’s enough.

“He needs to get back to basics, he’s always been a power puncher, and he just needs to keep going.”

Joshua started working with trainer Robert Garcia ahead of his second Usyk fight, but clearly that wasn’t enough for McGuigan.

The Clones Cyclone also urged AJ to rebuild his confidence.

He added: “Joshua has always been able to hit with power.

“He’s had a confidence issue since the Ruiz fight, but he needs to come back in and train with a good opponent again, pick a number of reluctant opponents – even if you knock them out again – to give him a bit of confidence.

“But ultimately he has to be aggressive. Whether he’s fighting Usyk or Tyson Fury, he has to be aggressive.”

The Gypsy King’s promoter Frank Warren confirmed talks of a fight with AJ have been put on hold following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II last week.

He told talkSPORT: “It obviously wasn’t appropriate. This is how we feel.

“We’ve put it on hold and will pick it up again in the next week or so.

“From our point of view, out of respect for what happened, we do not consider it appropriate.”
