Anthony Joshua closes in on Oleksandr Usyk’s rematch in the Middle East on July 23 while Eddie Hearn negotiates the deal

EDDIE HEARN has revealed Anthony Joshua could fight Oleksandr Usyk in the Middle East for their rematch.

Joshua, 32, will face Usyk on July 23 but the location for the fight has yet to be decided.

Hearn wanted the fight to take place in London to give AJ an “advantage”, but the promoter admitted the event would generate “double revenue” if held overseas.

The previous fight took place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but it seems Joshua is heading back to the sand dunes.

Hearn told iFL TV: “I think there’s a very good chance you’re going to see that fight on July 23 in the Middle East. We are getting closer to that option.”

After Joshua’s only professional loss to Andy Ruiz Jr., the Briton regained his world titles in Saudi Arabia.

He comprehensively defeated Ruiz in a fight dubbed the ‘Clash on the Dunes’ and earned a cool £59million for his efforts.

The figure for a second showdown with Usyk could be as high as £100m for Joshua – if the fight takes place in Saudi Arabia.

Hearn previously announced that he was in the final stages of negotiations for locations in London and the Middle East.

But an announcement for the duel will not be made until a location is decided – and both fighters must agree.

Wherever the fight takes place, Joshua is eager to put on a show and regain his belts by KOing Usyk.

He accepts he was boxed out in London in September but is ready to return to basics to overpower his Ukrainian opponent.

AJ plans to get up close and personal with Usyk and make his life in the ring unbearable – before delivering the KO punch like he’s done 22 fights before.
