Angry Joshua Kimmich slams Germany’s ‘unexplained’ collapse against England who ‘didn’t want to play’

JOSHUA KIMMICH has slammed Germany’s ‘unexplained’ collapse against England – before interfering with the way the Three Lions play.

The Bayern Munich star was in action as England and Germany played an epic 3-3 draw at Wembley last night.

Both teams went into the game after enduring disappointing campaigns in the UEFA Nations League.

Germany raced to a two-goal lead in the second half with a penalty from Ilkay Gündogan and a brilliant flick from Kai Havertz.

But Hansi Flick’s men conceded three times in a crazy 12-minute period to give up their lead and breathe new life into the Wembley crowd.

Havertz benefited from a Nick Pope error to salvage a draw for Germany but that did little to improve Bayern star Kimmich’s spirits.

The 27-year-old, who played the full 90 minutes of the game, didn’t hold back afterwards.

He said: “We controlled the game and were 2-0 up.

“England just played on the counterattack. After the 2-0 we became too passive and not brave enough against the ball.

“It’s actually inexplicable because England didn’t really want to play.”

He then added: “That shouldn’t happen in the second half because we completely gave the game away.

“Each of us players now has six weeks to get a good feeling. And then we will go full throttle for the World Cup.”

Drawn in Group E in Qatar, Germany will meet Japan, Spain and Costa Rica in November when they travel to the Middle East.

Before last night’s game, England manager Gareth Southgate gave Kimmich an envious look.

He said: “Joshua Kimmich is fundamental to the team and the way they play. He organizes the game for her and he reads it so well.

“We don’t have that kind of player in this country, I don’t think we develop that kind of player well through youth football and through academies. Other countries probably focus a bit more on that.”

“We talked about the death of Trent [Alexander-Arnold] – that’s why we tried him in midfield. That was totally screwed.

“If you don’t do that every day in certain positions for your club, it’s very difficult to transfer that to an international stage.”
