As of 4:30 p.m. ET, FlightAware had documented a total of 3,217 delayed flights “within, to or from the United States,” prompting mass complaints on social media.

Derek Karva, Detroit’s local Fox News meteorologist, tweeted: “Friday travel will be absolutely impacted as will Saturday.

“If you can change your plans to leave Wednesday or Thursday I would recommend it.:

He also warned travelers about the dangers of driving in the snow.

People on social media are in turmoil over the storm and its impact on their travels.

“Say a prayer as we drive to MN through the *checks notes* ‘Pre-Christmas Bomb Cyclone,'” said one Twitter user.

A future Dramamine-inspired traveler tweeted, “As a nervous aviator I really need everyone to stop saying ‘bomb cyclone’ thanks!”

The bomb cyclone was dubbed Winter Storm Elliott by the Weather Channel.

“They name it like a hurricane,” someone said on Twitter.

One person is kind of looking forward to the event, tweeting, “Let’s gooo winter storm #Elliot give me this sweet sweet 10 to 15 inches of snow here in Wisconsin let’s go.”

The storm is likely to complicate holiday travel plans as thousands of flight cancellations and delays are expected.

The blizzard-like event will hit the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday.

Elliott is expected to dump a few inches of snow on Seattle, Washington.

The storm will sweep much of the Midwest, bringing cold weather to the central part of the country through Thursday and Friday.

Finally, the Northeast is expected to land with snow and frigid temperatures, making New York and Boston feel like a harsh winter wonderland.

According to the Weather Channel, it’s difficult to predict how much snow the storm will dump based solely on the magnitude of the storm.
