And the ECtHR, which still has a Kremlin-backed Russian judge in its ranks, will not tell the Interior Ministry who made the final decision.

Instead, officials named seven judges, including those from Slovenia, Hungary, Ireland and Luxembourg, with the power to issue injunctions.

Home Secretary Priti Patel yesterday told MPs she was concerned at the “opaque” way the decision was taken.

A Whitehall source said: “The Court of Appeal was live on TV, the Supreme Court was live but this decision was taken in a back room in Strasbourg with no one there.”

The source said government lawyers had been “blindfolded about the process” and that last-ditch intervention sent “two months of hard work” down the drain.

They said UK officials could only provide written evidence in their case but could not respond to new specific claims from charities and migrant activists.

At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the court barred a 54-year-old Iraqi man from flying to Kigali, Rwanda.

He arrived in the UK on a small boat in May and his asylum application fell through earlier this month.

But his court success sparked three more appeals in our courts, which used the ECtHR’s ruling to block their flights.

A recent migrant was abducted under modern slavery laws.

Russian judge Mikhail Lobov will remain a member of the ECtHR until September, despite Russia withdrawing after its invasion of Ukraine.
