The defending US Open champion has not won head-to-head matches since playing in Romania at the end of October.

But she will be flying to Miami now in an attempt to regroup and try to start her 2022 season.

The first set in the desert was a grueling inning, with Raducanu eventually winning the tie-break after 61 minutes of play despite being 5-3 down.

The Briton broke up in the second set but failed to convert the chance as Split star Martic, 31, promoted.

Tennis player Kent, who has returned from a recent hip injury, will kick himself for not taking advantage of the opportunity to serve 5-4 in the third set.

But she broke for the seventh time and ended up having to pack her way out of the fifth major on the track.

The Scot then denied two break points in the opening game of the second set before breaking in the fourth game.

He dug deep to save three break points in the sixth game but couldn’t start to return to the game and Bublik closed the win.
