Andy Murray beats world No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach semifinals on grass in Stuttgart while the Brit has the last laugh in “Loo-Gate”.

ANDY MURRAY got revenge on Stefanos Tsitsipas after their toilet row at last year’s US Open.

The Briton defeated No. 1-seeded Tsitsipas in a shock result 7-6, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Boss Open in Stuttgart on Friday.

Muzza blasted the Greek in August, saying he had lost respect for the 23-year-old after accusing him of cheating for spending too much time in the toilet at Flushing Meadows.

After his five-set loss in the first round – which saw Tsitsipas rest seven minutes at the end of the second and fourth sets – Murray fired shots on Twitter.

He wrote: “Fact of the day. Stefanos Tsitipas takes twice as long to go to the bathroom as Jeff Bazos does to fly into space. Interesting.”

But world No. 68 Murray, 35, got the last laugh in Germany as he knocked out his opponent in an hour and 40 minutes.

World No. 5 Tsitsipas secured a break point in game seven as the opening set passed on serve.

But he failed to convert any of his own at 6-6 when Murray forced the tie-break, which he won 7-4.

Muzza broke Tsitsipas to take a 4-2 lead on the second match point, serving with his third match point to win after Tsitsipas saved two on his own serve while 5-2 down.

It’s the first time since 2016 that Murray has beaten a player ranked in the top five in the world and he was delighted with his performance.

He said: “I did well. He served incredibly well in the first set and I had very few chances coming back.

“But when he created opportunities on my serve, I stayed strong.

“I played a really solid tie-break and in the second set I served well while his slacked off a bit.

“When I was in the rallies I felt like I was dictating a lot of points so it was a good performance.

“It was an incredible atmosphere, almost a full audience. Nice weather today, really nice conditions to play tennis.”

And in a subtle jab at Tsitsipas, Murray added: “I don’t want to say I was the smarter player, but maybe this rubber suits my style.

“Stefanos plays well on all surfaces, but that’s good for my game and I can use my strengths better.”

Murray meets Australian villain Nick Kyrgios in the semifinals, who progressed after Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics overtook him.

Matteo Berrettini, the 2021 Wimbledon runner-up, had previously booked his place in the last four with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego.

Next he meets local favorite Oscar Otte, who came through after another walkover by Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.
