ANCHOR Ana Cabrera is leaving CNN News, leaving fans and colleagues saddened by the loss of the network.
Cabrera confirmed her departure on Twitter, and her adoring fans were quick to sing praises to the veteran presenter in the comments.
“Goodbye is hard. Thanks CNN for everything,” Cabrera said in her post on Thursday.
“I’m excited to start a new chapter in my career and look forward to new opportunities, challenges and growth!”
The host and correspondent said her final show will air on December 22nd.
The announcement caused heartbreak for many, who enjoyed watching her rise through the ranks at CNN.
She joined the CNN team in 2013 as a correspondent in Denver.
In 2017, she was promoted to the weekend edition of the CNN Newsroom.
She currently hosts CNN’s 1 p.m. hour.
More than 1,000 comments were received on Cabrera’s post about her departure.
“This is incredible and sad news,” one fan said on Twitter.
“Your segment is the highlight of CNN’s afternoon programming.”
Another person said: “I thought you should have been promoted to night shows.
“I hope that was your decision and not the new CNN bean counter,” they added, presumably in reference to TV ratings.
Cabrera was quick to reply, “It was entirely my decision. CNN made me a very nice offer (for which I’m really grateful).
“There are a lot of great people and journalists at CNN.”
She also made it clear that the move was “not a setback” for her.
One fan asked: “Where are you going? You will be missed unless I can keep watching you elsewhere.”
The host could reportedly end up on NBCUniversal, Variety reported, citing sources, but her next move has yet to be announced.
Cabrera said she’s looking forward to some extra family time during a break and that she’ll keep Twitter updated on her next move.
The journalist also saw a lot of support from industry colleagues and former interlocutors after the big update.
CBS News contributor Celine Gounder said, “I’ve enjoyed working with you over the past few years.”
Gounder is the widow of Grant Wahl, a journalist who died last week while covering the World Cup.
“Wow that you’re sending this message on your heart right now with everything I know it means the world to me,” Cabrera said in response.
“The same thing happened to me. Sending you and your family much love and comfort.”
Natasha Bertrand, CNN’s White House and national security reporter, said, “We’re going to miss you, Ana!”
Cabrera is a board member of the Mi Casa Resource Center and a former board member of the American Cancer Society.
Her departure from the network comes after Brian Stelter left CNN in August after his show Reliable Sources was canceled.
