An Official Marvel Zombies Board Game Launched On Kickstarter

A Kickstarter campaign for Marvel Zombies – a Marvel-licensed spin-off of popular Bomb-killer board game – has raised more than $3.65 million since it appeared on the crowdfunding site on January 18. The project is fully funded, with designers CMON, Guillotine Games and Spin Master Games only asked for $500,000 to deliver the product.

The game puts players on a New York City-inspired board and lets them control a horde of transformed superheroes. As zombie versions of characters such as Hulk, Captain Marvel, Iron Man and Deadpool, players will tremble through the streets of the city trying to complete objectives. They’ll have to feed on the outsiders – power up and get new perks – and fight the surviving heroes to stay in the game. The game also features a hunger meter, which players will have to satisfy if they don’t want to lose control of their zombie hero.

Additional commitments to the game include the second game, Marvel Zombies: X Men Resistance, which gives players opposite perspectives. In X-Men Resistance, the player takes control of live versions of famous X-Men, and uses them to protect the X-Mansion from hordes of zombies and shapeshifting heroes.

Marvel Zombies will also be released with the day one expansion: Galactus the Devourer. The expansion comes with a giant Galactus character, and the player can alter his head and arms to transform him into either a living Galactus or a zombie Galactus. The player can then defeat or devour Galactus in an encounter with its own set of rules and cards – including the living and dead Silver Surfer character.

With the massive success of Kickstarter, the developers added more hero characters as stretch goals, such as the lively and zombified versions of Luke Cage, Beast and Winter Soldier.

There are three levels of commitment for players to choose from on Kickstarter, depending on how many games they want. The Marvel Zombies-only commit to ask for $130, while both Marvel Zombies and X-Men Resistance players will run $240. Those wanting to get both the game and the Galactus expansion will need to commit $410 or more.

Marvel Zombies has an estimated delivery date of October 2022, while the remaining items will not be delivered until at least June 2023.
