A REtiree was trampled to death by an enraged elephant before the animal returned to pull her from a pyre and maul her corpse.
Maya Murmu, 70, was collecting water in the village of Raipal in eastern India when an escaped elephant vented its anger on her.
The giant creature kicked her and she was taken to the hospital but died from her catastrophic injuries.
But in a cruel twist, the enraged elephant returned and ripped her body off her pyre.
It trampled on her body again, throwing her around and devastating her corpse before she left the scene, Press Trust of India reports.
The elephant is said to have fled the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary in Jharkhand – 124 miles from where the brutal attack took place.
According to local reports, the animal returned when Mrs. Murmu’s family performed the last rites.
They were forced to stop the ceremony after the elephant ran away.
It comes after an elephant at a wedding went on a rampage after being startled by firecrackers.
Shock footage showed the giant elephant overturning cars and destroying the venue after being startled by the noise.
Meanwhile, panicked guests could be seen fleeing the scene.
The incident happened during a wedding in Uttar Pradesh, India.
Firecrackers were set off as the groom Anand Tripathi, who was riding the animal, was greeted.
As soon as the elephant who was hired for the celebration heard the sound, he began to get restless.
