Nebraska’s Elizabeth “Lulu” Gilreath went on a carnival ride that turned out to be the worst ride of her young life.
Lulu, 11, was at a local county fair and enjoying the day she decided to ride the ‘King’s Crown’.
Tragically, her hair got caught in the plane while she was driving and was yanked from her head.
Her mother stood nearby and saw it all happen!
It took nearly five minutes for the car to come to a halt and Lulu to be taken to the hospital.
Lulu was hospitalized in critical condition and was in intensive care for a few weeks.
Lulu underwent multiple skin grafts to try to cover up the portions of her scalp that were forcibly ripped away.
Lulu’s story became public and people across the country donated money to help her family with their medical bills. You raised over $500,000!
Some people wrote her letters of support, wishing her a speedy recovery.
You gotta love it when complete strangers come together for a common cause.
Lulu and her mother are working on stricter regulations for mechanical rides.
No one wants this to happen to another young person! Lulu’s hair will never grow back, her life has changed forever.
Lulu’s warning to everyone is to avoid wearing baggy clothing and make sure your hair is tied back before taking a ride.
