Americans get $500 monthly direct payments – how to apply and the exact deadline

DIRECT payments are available for eligible Americans – but you need to beware of an upcoming deadline.

As part of Hudson, New York’s universal basic income program, residents are scheduled to receive $500 a month for five years.

The Hudson UP initiative will be implemented in three phases.

The first, launched in 2020, brought in $500 a month for 25 residents over five years.

The following year, the payments were then extended to an additional 50 residents.

And in 2022, the total number of participants will rise to 128 as another 53 are selected.

The third phase will be launched in partnership with local community organizations The Spark of Hudson and Greater Hudson Neighborhood Promise.

Who is eligible and how can I apply?

The city is currently running a lottery, which started on June 22, according to HudsonValley360.

To be eligible, you must meet the following guidelines:

• be 18 years or older
• Earn less than $39,346 per year
• Live in the Hudson

Eligible applicants can apply online.

The application deadline is September 22nd, 2022.

“We will select individuals at random based on equity and demographic criteria,” the application form states.

“If you are randomly selected to participate, we will contact you by October 1st using the contact method you have chosen.”

Who still offers BGE?

There are dozens of other cities and states across the country that offer their own UBI programs.

Another in New York was recently extended through September.

As a result, the 100 household members should expect to receive a final payment of $400 in July, $350 in August, and $300 in September.

As the program expands, more than 150 families in Mountain View, California will soon be able to apply.

The maximum eligible annual income is $44,750 in 2021 for a family of three.

According to the city, applications are expected to be accepted in mid to late summer.

And another 80 families in Sacramento will receive $500 monthly payments for a year.

Income must be 150% below the California Poverty Measure to qualify.
