American Idol FANS have voiced their criticism of a controversial new feature on the show.
On Reddit, viewers of the competition singing show vented their disappointment with “saves” and “platinum tickets.”
One American Idol fan brought up the specifics and critiqued, “I think we can all agree these are pointless twists. But ABC will likely continue them.
“So I don’t know of a good solution for the platinum ticket because again it’s completely pointless and frankly dooms platinum ticket holders.”
They wondered, “But for the judges’ parades, couldn’t they just change it so the judges save 3 people before America votes, so then we don’t really know if those 3 people were at the bottom of the votes to begin with.” ? “
Another commenter agreed: “Platinum tickets could act as saves.
“They definitely don’t function the way they are now — they put pressure on the participants who get them and they lose valuable practice that the other participants who skip it are getting that week.”
Four platinum tickets were awarded this year after the idea was presented in last year’s competition.
Contestants earn a ticket for beating the judges and advance straight into round two of Hollywood Week.
explained Katy Perry [via Just Jared]: “This ticket gives them the opportunity to go to Hollywood Week, which we’ve already filmed and which was so rigorous and vital, and they can basically watch from box seats in the theater.

She continued, “One day they can rest their voice, strategize, look at the competition and choose who they want to duet with.
“They have a small advantage because they are the crème de la crème.”
At American Idol, things heat up, the participants are reduced to the last 10.
However, the current jury of Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie failed to impress viewers.
Katy Perry was criticized for her treatment of contestants, while many applauded her and Lionel’s temporary replacements in favor of Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette.
Fans have recently called for Simon Cowell to return to the panel.
Simon served as a judge from seasons one through nine and as a producer until 2016.
Since then he has been a judge on The X-Factor, America’s Got Talent and other competitive shows.
Frustrated Idol watchers took to Twitter to criticize the judges for not being honest and “cheerleading” the contestants instead of giving them helpful feedback.
“Tonight I’m tuning in to #AmericanIdol for the first time,” one fan tweeted.
“They need Simon Cowell back because these judges are way too nice to these candidates,” they continued. “I’ve only seen one so far that looks like they should be there.”
“I’m so tired of these judges being cheerleaders and not honest judges because there’s no way this version of the Dancing Queen was as good as she made it seem #AmericanIdol,” said another, referring to MaryBeth Byrd’s performance.
To which someone replied: “These judges are useless. I miss Simon – he could be tough but at least he was honest and tried to push her to be better. Katy, Luke and Lionel tell everyone they’re awesome no matter what. “
A third simply tweeted, “BRING BACK SIMON.”
