American Idol fans are defending champion Iam Tongi after a troll claims the singer will soon be ‘working at the airport’ rather than becoming famous

AMERICAN Idol fans have defended season 21 winner Iam Tongi after a troll tried to discredit him.

One Instagram user wrote that instead of seeking fame, I’ll be “working in an airport soon.”

On Sunday, American Idol’s Instagram page posted a photo of Iam to mark the week-long anniversary of his win.

“Happy week-long IDOLversary to our Season 21 WINNER, @wtongi!!!” The post was labeled.

The Idol winner stood on stage at the show with a big smile on his face.

In his hand he held the envelope on which his name as the winner was written.

Iam won Season 21 on May 21 against Megan Danielle and Colin Stough.

The 18-year-old quickly won the hearts of fans with his sensual voice and humble personality.

However, there was one person who commented on the post and did not convey positive vibes to the winner.

“Will look good on his resume if he applies to be a greeter at a tropical island airport. When he wears flip flops and sings, he hands out wreaths of flowers,” the troll wrote.

I wore flip flops for most of his performance as he is from Hawaii which is a warm island.

FANS DEFEND

There were over 70 replies to the troll, from fans defending Iam and telling this person to be friendly.

“A week and still bitter. Hahaha,” said one fan.

“Very rude,” wrote another.

A third added: “Troll. Time to take your daily nap.”

“Boo. There’s still time to delete this,” said another.

“You really have to humble yourself. Spread love, not hate,” commented a defender.

“He laughs at you all the way to the bank,” said another fan.

The other comments were mostly positive.

Even though the troll thought I was “landing in an airport,” the Idol winner has already put on a great performance.

In the coming weeks, the 18-year-old will be appearing on the main stage of a star-studded country music festival.

The beach it! festival in Virginia Beach, Iam listed Luke Bryan, 45, and other A-stars including Miranda Lambert, 39, as headliners.

In an Instagram postthe American Idol winner announced his upcoming performance, writing, “So excited to play @beachitfestival in June!”

“Passports are now available. See you all on the main stage!”

According to the Time scheduleIam opens the festival on June 23rd, while Luke closes the festivities on June 25th.
