AMAZON will raise the price of its Prime membership up to $24 a year in a few weeks.
This is the first time since 2018 that the e-commerce giant has raised fees.
Revealed in today’s earnings report, Amazon will increase the monthly fee for US users from $12.99 to $14.99 – for an additional $24 per year.
While the annual membership will go from $119 to $139 – an extra $20.
For new Prime members, the price change will take effect on February 18, 2022.
And for existing Prime members, the new prices will apply after March 25, 2022, on their next renewal date.
Amazon said the move comes as a result of “the continued expansion of Prime member benefits as well as increased wages and shipping costs”.
Prime members have access to Main video and other benefits like free two-day shipping via Amazon.
But if you don’t mind the extra benefits with Amazon Prime, you can opt for a Prime Video membership for $8.99 a month.

How much do other streaming sites charge?
For two decades now, Netflix has dominated the streaming space. As of June, Netflix has more than 209 million subscribers globally.
Netflix offers three plans: basic, standard, and premium.
These costs are $9.99, $15.49, and $19.99 per month respectively.
Regardless of the plan you choose, you have the flexibility to watch what Netflix describes as “unlimited movies and TV shows”.
Standard and premium members have HD access. Ultra HD is available to premium customers.
Despite Hulu’s recent price hike, it’s still cheaper than both Netflix and Amazon Prime.
All plans include access to Hulu’s library of movies and TV shows, with the most basic plan currently priced at $6.99 a month.
For an extra $6 per month, you get ad-free access to Hulu movies and TV shows.
Meanwhile, students get Hulu’s most basic plan for just $1.99 a month.
Unlike Netflix, Hulu has several packages that include live TV benefits.
But when you hit the packages with live TV—that’s when things start to get expensive.
With the newest one price increaseHulu Live TV is currently $69.99 or $75.99 per month, depending on whether you want to accept ads or not.
The good news is that Hulu Live TV users now have Disney Plus and ESPN Plus added to its plan.
As standalone subscriptions, these plans cost $6.99 and $7.99 per month respectively.
