Start anew

First, click the “Restart” button.

Just like a computer, phone, or Wi-Fi router, restarting the device regularly can help unclog an Amazon Fire TV Stick.

This can be done either by unplugging the device from the wall and reconnecting it, or by removing the TV using these instructions:

  1. Press and hold the button Home (House) button
  2. Choose Settings > Device
  3. Choose Start anew

Uninstall unused apps and add-ons

Maxing out storage slows down your Fire Stick and causes lag when navigating apps or watching TV.

To get rid of unused apps and add-ons, simply follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the button Home (House) button.
  2. Choose Settings > Applications
  3. Choose Manage installed applications
  4. Select the app you want to uninstall
  5. Click UninstallThen Uninstall again for confirmation

Force stop unused apps

Just because you aren’t actively using an app doesn’t mean it isn’t updating behind the scenes.

For unused apps that don’t have an uninstall option, or apps that you want to keep but don’t use often, there is a way to limit their background activity.

To do this, follow exactly the same steps as to uninstall the app, as described above.

This time, instead of clicking “Uninstall”, click “ Force stop.
