Amazon adds ‘ad-free’ charge to Prime Video service

Amazon Prime Video subscribers will have to pay an additional $2.99 per month to watch ad-free videos starting in 2024.

The company said the fee allows them to “continue to invest in compelling content” and “increase the investment over time.” The announcement states that Amazon wants to have “less advertising compared to linear television and other providers.”

Subscribers who don’t want to see ads have the option to add a monthly fee of $2.99 as part of the new “ad-free” option. Amazon says Prime members will receive notifications a few weeks before the ads are implemented with instructions on how to change their plans for ad-free content. However, Amazon did not give the exact date for the introduction of the ad-free level, but only indicated that it would be introduced in early 2024.
