Lukaku, now back at Inter Milan after a disastrous return to Chelsea, spent four years at Everton before joining Manchester United in 2017.

Senegal-born Onana, 20, who made his senior debut for Belgium in the summer, said: “I know it’s a big, big club. I know about the rivalry between Everton and Liverpool and heard about it from Rome. He told me everything about the club.

“Relationships between the Belgians and this club have been successful, so why not with me?

“I will give everything for the club and try to win as much as possible. I will give 100 percent. The World Cup is a goal for me and I can only achieve it if I play well here.

“I can play in any position in midfield as a defensive midfielder or as an eighth forward, but always where the coach needs me.”

Onana will wear the number eight jersey, as will his hero, basketball legend Kobe Bryant.

He added: “I’m a huge, huge fan of Kobe Bryant and his work ethic. He wore number 24, which I had before, and now number eight. I’m glad to have that.”

Onana becomes Frank Lampard’s fifth signing behind Conor Coady, James Tarkowski, Dwight McNeil and Ruben Vinagre.

Considering one of Europe’s most exciting talents, Onana added: “The manager was one of the main reasons. He played at the highest level, won a lot of things and was also a midfielder.

“It means a lot to have an interest from him and I think he can teach me a lot of things.”

Liverpool fan Coady has expressed his son’s delight that the England international has been loaned to Wolves for a season.

Coady’s boy has coaching sessions at Everton. The defender said: “My son loves Everton. He is overjoyed.

“I feel privileged and fortunate to have been given this opportunity. He jumped up and down when I told him.

“This is a proud moment and I will give my all every day.

“I really wanted to come and play for this club. I have family and friends who are Evertonians.”

Coady, who will become part of a back three under Lampard, added: “People pigeonhole you because we played a three at Wolves.

“But I’m open to learning every day of my life. I played for my country in a foursome and loved every moment of it.

“I try to talk and communicate as much as possible and prepare well for the weekend – because the most important thing for this club is to win games.”
