“Almost every player has to do more”

The Red Devils are desperate to win to boost their dwindling hopes of overtaking Arsenal and finishing in the top four.

This race to qualify for the Champions League comes as they were knocked out of the competition by Atletico Madrid.

That means United will once again end the campaign without trophies as they continue to search for their next permanent manager.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Matic revealed it has been difficult working under interim manager Ralf Rangnick since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.

But he refused to use this as an excuse for United’s failure.

He said: “It’s not easy when the players think the coach is only here for a couple of months. And it’s not easy for him.

“But we’re all professionals and we have to follow his ideas because it’s good for him, for us and for the club.

“Sometimes players, when you know the coach isn’t staying here next season, it’s not easy to change coaches.

“Every new manager takes some time to work on and we try to do exactly what they want us to do.

“In some games we did that very well and in some games we didn’t do so well.”

When asked why they struggle on the pitch, he continued: “It’s hard for me, I’m just a player. I have a hard time analyzing that.

“What I can say is that we are obviously not satisfied with this season. We have to do much better.

“This season has been difficult for us. When you play for Manchester United you have to win trophies. We didn’t make it this season.”

Meanwhile, he was also asked if his pal Maguire was taunted on duty in England this week.

He said: “Harry Maguire didn’t serve that. I think he played very well for England in the last Euros. He did an amazing job, so I don’t understand her.

“We have to be honest and say that almost every player has to do more, has to give more.

“We have to get better here as a team. There are no more excuses.

“We have to win seven or eight of the last nine games.”

He added: “I’m very happy to be here, very happy to represent this club.

“There’s pressure on us, but we have to deal with that and do our best.” “Almost every player has to do more”
