It was a decision that surprised the school leadership. They didn’t think they would win. During the appeal hearing, there were some tense moments with school leaders and board members about the code and ethics guidelines.
According to PIAA, due to the success and number of transfers, the team was decided to move to 5A. Based on registration alone, the team is technically a 1A school. It has been playing above its class for many years.

The school leadership’s biggest concern about the transfer to another class is the safety of the players. The team has about 35 to 40 players and that number could decrease as the season progresses due to injuries. Some teams at 5A have more than 100 players.
Superintendent Dr Phillip Woods spoke to KDKA while considering boarding.
“Regardless of the outcome, I feel that myself, the head coach, the high school principal, the athletic and community director, have done what is required of me in advocating for safety. of our children. Regardless of the call, I feel like we’ve accomplished that goal,” he said.
