Across town, where the senseless acts of violence began, near First Avenue and Broadway, there was a different scene. A little girl peeked inside the window of a closed tattoo parlor. That store, Sol Tribe Tattoo, is a place for people to gather and remember the lives of two women who were killed Monday night.

One of those women was Sol Tribe owner Alicia Cardenas. Cardenas is a Denver native and aboriginal artist. Her father was in the crowd, missing his daughter.
“Just thinking about her not being around. It’s too early, too early,” he told CBS4’s Mekialaya White. “She is influential, friendly, can be gruff at times, but is a true lover. That’s Alicia. ”
Alfredo finds out Alicia has been killed from her son in the middle of the night.
“He heard about it online… and he knocked on the door and told me.”
He said, while not confirming it, he had a gut feeling that it was her.
“(I think) if that person had walked in and started calling for help, she would have been right there first. She could have been right up front, and I’m sure that’s what happened. ”
Alfredo said in the midst of senseless crime, he was proud of Alicia. She leaves a legacy, with her artwork speaking for itself.

“She is a unique person. you will never forget her when you meet her. You ask around in the tattooing community, they’ll know who she is,” he said. “She will be missed a lot. She influenced a very, very large part of the Denver community. And I got messages from Portland, Mexico, Kentucky… she influenced so many people in so many places. ”
And from here, Alfredo and Alicia’s 12-year-old daughter will have to navigate life without a mother.
“It will be difficult to continue, but we have to,” Alfredo said.
