Alexa’s Yellow Notification Bell Could RUN Your Christmas – how to turn it off

AMAZON Echo fans will be familiar with the ring of yellow light that shines around the speaker when you have a notification.

What you may not know, however, is that this seemingly innocuous light can ruin your Christmas by gifting the things you bought to your loved ones.

Notifications typically let you know that an item you ordered has been shipped, delivered, or has arrived at your home.

All you have to do when you see a yellow light is say “Alexa, do I have an announcement?”.

The virtual assistants will then read your alerts aloud, including those associated with your Amazon account.

When listing your delivery status, the small talker may even provide the names of the products that you have ordered.

This is fine and fine if you live alone, but it can be a disaster if you live with other people.

If you’ve been doing some secret Christmas shopping on your Amazon account, you might want to turn off the yellow ring light feature.

Otherwise, your cohabitants can ask Alexa to read the announcement and hear what you ordered for them by December 25.

Note that a yellow ring light may also appear when you receive a message from a contact.

To hear this, just say “Alexa, read my messages” and when you’ve heard them the lights will go out.

To turn it off completely, follow the steps below.

How to turn off yellow ring light notifications on Amazon Echo

Go to the Alexa app on your phone, then click “Add” and “Settings”.

Find “Notifications” and then click “Shop on Amazon”.

Here, you can turn off the range of sent notifications just by sliding the button next to them.

If you want to turn them back on after Christmas then follow the steps above and re-enable the toggle.

Hide orders from Alexa

You can also stop your Amazon account from letting your smart speaker know what you’ve ordered.

Open the Alexa app on your phone and go to “Settings”.

Find “Notifications” and then click “Shop on Amazon”.

Find the section that says “Say or Show Section Titles” and then turn it off.

Alexa can now tell you when a package will be delivered, but it won’t specifically say what the package is so Christmas isn’t ruined.
