Alex Singleton has called out once again to help the eagles defend

Philadelphia Eagles fullback Alex Singleton has seen his game time dwindle in recent times, but stepped right in and ready when he was called up to Sunday’s win over the New Orleans Saints.

Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon explained: “I’m really excited for Alex, because when he got in there he played well. “It’s really a testament to the fact that he doesn’t – sometimes when your catching goes down, you kind of – a lot of the guys I’ve seen go into the pool a little bit and it’s not him. because he’s highly footballing. And those are the people we want to be there.”

Davion Taylor has had to leave the game with a knee injury that will keep him out for the next few weeks, meaning Singleton will be called up once again to help the Eagles defence.

Taylor posted this photo from his Instagram account, showing him giving a thumbs up with the words “successful surgery” and “path to recovery”.

Defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon told reporters Tuesday that with Taylor out, he doesn’t expect to see a drop from Singleton.

“He understands that he still has a huge role to play in defence and that could add up at any time,” said Gannon. “As Davion’s reps grew, Alex said, ‘I’ll be ready to go when you need me. And I will be a star in my role. ”

“And that’s why he goes there and plays well, because a lot of times when you see guys come in and they don’t play well, they’re usually not prepared to play. And this guy is ready to play all the time. .. “

“And like I said, he’s got a lot of football. And his playability will increase when Davion gets out a little bit and he’ll play well.”

In 11 games this season, Singleton has started 4 games, has 87 tackles and 2 clearances within the pass.

Last season, with the Eagles defense struggling, former defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz switched to Singleton, who has started the last 11 games. Singleton accumulated 120 tackles, two sacks and one interception.

Taylor’s role in the Eagles defense grew as Singleton declined. With Taylor likely to be benched due to injury, Singleton is set to see a boost in his game time.

The Colorado third-round 2020 player walked out of the game against The Saints in Week 11 after suffering a knee injury, which could potentially put him out for several weeks.

“He’s playing well when he’s playing there,” said Gannon, “He’s playing winning football and he’s doing his job well and I like the way he’s physical and he’s quick and can play in space.”

Taylor has totaled 39 tackles this season in nine games with two clumsy catches.
