Alan Wake 2 will be ‘best counter game ever’

For many years, Remedy has been developing games on a proprietary game engine called Northlight. And Remedy creative director Sam Lake said that Alan Wake 2 will set up a new bar for Image Quality Remedy.

“Alan Wake 2 is, by far, going to be the best, most beautiful Remedy game ever,” Lake said in a live interview with IGN. Given that Northlight is the engine that powers graphic-rich games like Control and Quantum Break, this is a bold and exciting claim.

IGN asks if partnership between Remedy and Epic Games on Alan Wake 2, where Epic Games is publishing the title, which means a sequel to Alan Wake could be in development on Epic’s Unreal Engine 5. But Lake says it’s sticking with Northlight because it has the technology that best matches the experience Remedy is trying to create for the next Alan Wake game.

“[Alan Wake 2] is on Northlight. We feel that especially for the kind of experiences where atmosphere and stylization are more important than ever, it’s that we know Northlight so well that we can focus on certain things and push the envelope. certain things forward. ”

The Northlight engine is designed to leverage the storytelling elements that Remedy Entertainment loves when developing games. This includes an emphasis on cinematic realism, realistic characters, large-scale destruction and physics, etc. Along with Alan Wake 2, Northlight is being used for the upcoming CrossfireX story campaign that Remedy is developing for Smilegate.

Alan Wake 2 was officially announced at The Game Awards as Remedy’s First Survival Horror Game. And Lake says that Remedy is taking advantage of creative freedom to design a really scary game.

IGN will have a full video interview with Sam Lake soon, so check that out again. And check everything announced at The Game Awards here.
