AFV fans know Bob Saget’s death in a confusing way

On January 9, ABC interrupted the broadcast of “America’s Funniest Video” on the East Coast to announce that Bob Saget is dead, based on yahoo news. This is definitely a shocking moment for any fan who remembers Saget’s tenure as the original showrunner. Some took to Twitter to express their jarring feelings about the announcement. “Real life is stranger than fiction,” writes @CLERoDB, continue in a second tweet, “They came up with a special when the winner was announced. It was sad news. The timing was strange.” User @twistedperceptn wrote, “I was sitting on my love seat watching ‘AFV,’ of all the shows, when ABC interrupted with a Bob Saget special report. I started to cry, and I was shaking. AF motion now.”

While Saget retired from hosting in 1997, he re-shot “America’s Funniest Videos” several times to the delight of his fans. He co-hosted a special 20th anniversary with Tom Bergeron in 2009 (via Weekly entertainment), in addition to a special 30th celebration together with Bergeron and Alfonso Ribeiro in 2019 (via Movieweb). Saget also made a quick appearance to celebrate Bergeron’s final episode as host in 2015, which saw him drive a golf cart with Bergeron at night (via Game show). To mark Saget’s loss, Bergeron tweeted a video captures the moment, “For my last @AFVofficial I asked my friend a special favor. He said yes. I am forever grateful.” Just before that, he tweeted, “Just heard the news. So sad. I will miss you, my friend.”
