After seeing texts about child abuse, a passenger reports a fellow passenger to the police

A Washington man was texting his girlfriend about the harassment of young children on a plane when a fellow passenger spotted the text and reported it to police. Shortly after the plane landed, law enforcement waited for the man at the gate.

A Washington man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexual abuse after a fellow passenger on a plane saw his texts about child molestation and reported him to authorities.

Michael, 58, was on a plane when he texted his girlfriend about the molestation of two children. According to the criminal complaint, a passenger discovered the texts and alerted the combat team. The crew arranged for law enforcement to collect the plane at the gate.

Michael was arrested when the plane landed. He was charged in federal court with conspiracy to manufacture child pornography.

When he was arrested, police confiscated Michael’s phone. According to the complaint, authorities found hundreds of text messages in which Michael spoke to his girlfriend about molesting two children she was babysitting. In the lyrics, Michael and 52-year-old Gail discuss a plan to drug, sexually abuse and film the two children, ages 5 and 7.

Investigators found the couple had produced and shared several hundred sexually explicit images of children.

The judge in the case condemned Michael in the strongest terms during sentencing. “This case was the most disturbing case I’ve ever had,” the judge said. “[These offenses] burdening society with a cascade of negative effects that can never be repaired.”

Michael was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the US District Court.
