A gunman active at a Walmart was killed in a shootout with police as a victim was taken to a hospital.
Evansville, Indiana, police said a threat has been “neutralized” and taken into custody.
“Officials are clearing the area to deal with possible victims.”
Dispatchers received a call about a shooter at around 9:59 p.m.
EPD spokeswoman Officer Taylor Merriss said she is on site and will provide updates.
Officials from multiple agencies, including the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police, and ambulances were at the scene.
Sgt. Anna Gray reported that the suspect was shot by police at the scene and fired back at officers “multiple times”.
According to Gray, the suspect would fire at officers before hiding and firing again.
“He was all over the store,” she said.
One victim of the shooting was alive, Gray said, and was taken to a hospital, but there is no information on the victim’s condition.
“A lot of people are on the run,” Gray said. “We ask that witnesses call if they have any information.”
The shooter’s identity was not released at the time.
The scene is now an active investigation.
