AARON Carter’s baby mum Melanie Martin said she finally feels like a mother after regaining custody of her one-year-old son after a nine-month custody battle, The US Sun can reveal.
The beauty influencer had an on-off relationship with the pop star for three years and even got engaged to him before his untimely death on November 5.
Aaron, who was struggling with drug problems, was devastated when the couple lost custody of Prince in March.
The pop star previously told The US Sun getting his family back is his top priority just weeks before he relapsed and reportedly started wheezing again.
Prince has been living with Melanie’s mother, Emily, in Lake Forest, California – about an hour outside of Los Angeles – for the past few months after she was named his legal guardian.
But the 34-year-old is thrilled to have her baby boy back after a court hearing on Thursday and told The US Sun she “finally feels like a mother”.
She said in an exclusive interview: “I have my son Princeton Lyric Carter back, it’s been a very emotional day not having Princeton’s father here as he would have been thrilled to know we were regaining custody of his only son.
“The judge offered Aaron his condolences. After almost a year of constant harassment not only from the internet but also from various other people, I feel like I’m finally starting to breathe.
“My spirits are elevated and I could not be more grateful for the judge’s decision on this matter.
“Prince and I currently live in a condo and I am working on opening a salon within the next year while continuing to shed light on Aaron and care for our beautiful baby boy.”
She added: “It’s been a very disheartening year, every day felt like another struggle and I know it’s not over yet. I’m just proud to say that I finally feel like the mom I am and I can’t wait to share the memories Aaron and I had to create new ones with Prince too.
“Prince is my heart and I feel like I just got that back.
“The unconditional love that a son and a mother have is unbreakable, unmatched, and I only wish Aaron was physically here with me to see that all the hard work we’ve all put in hasn’t been in vain. Princeton Lyric Carter is home.”
Melanie admitted her only wish would be to have Aaron here to share the moment with her as she adjusts to a new chapter as a single mom in her new two bed house.
“I can see him smiling with joy, dancing and singing,” she said. “A family is all he ever wanted and that’s exactly what he has now.
“I remember when Aaron was asked by Red TV from Germany what his greatest achievement was and his answer was ‘having a son of my own’.
“Aaron’s legacy will forever live on through all of us, from his fans to his family and colleagues.”
The couple couldn’t reveal the exact reason behind the loss of custody, but it’s believed to be a culmination of Aaron’s mental health issues and his tumultuous relationship with Melanie.
She previously said: “I can’t give details, both regretted the words that resulted in us losing custody of our son. However, we both worked to get him back.
“He saw our son and then I saw our son with my mother and he was really actively trying. It was just a lot. I think it really stressed him out.”
They lost custody and he went into rehab to bring his son home, The US Sun reported in September 2022.
He claimed he began a month-long outpatient program with Los Angeles-based Lionrock Recovery to that end.
In a video with Melanie, 35, she said: “I haven’t had any relapses or anything, it’s just the triggers that are big for me right now [and] i want my son back
REAL ESTATE BATTLE
“The main reason I signed up for Lionrock Recovery’s outpatient treatment is to help with the weed.”
The tattooed artist, who claimed he’s had more than 100 bouts of snorting, said he spent $200,000 on grooming to make the couple a “fully functioning family.”
Melanie told The US Sun that Prince was allowed regular unsupervised visits, while Aaron had someone with him when he was spending time with his young son.
The couple split again the week before his death, but she felt they would reconcile after discussing things.
Meanwhile, Melanie isn’t sure what will happen to Aaron’s fortune after it was revealed he died intestate – but she hopes Prince receives his inheritance according to California law.
Probate documents show the singer, who was Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter’s younger brother, had real estate and personal belongings worth about $550,000 at the time of his death.
Aaron’s family wants control of his money and possessions.
But Melanie has also hired legal counsel for the probate case so Prince can receive his inheritance, although no documents have yet been filed on her behalf.
When asked if she hopes to become an administrator, she said: “My lawyers are dealing with it right now and we’ll see what happens, the judge will decide.”
A hearing is currently scheduled for January 25, 2023 at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles.
