A woman and five children are killed when she drives a pickup truck the wrong way on Interstate I-90 and crashes into a car

Seven people have died in a horrific crash on Interstate 90 after a wrong-driving van collided with a car, police say.

Police confirmed to The Sun that a woman and five children from the van were killed and a woman from the car had also died.

The van was traveling west on the freeway when it collided head-on with a car.

Illinois State Police told The Sun that both vehicles were “completely engulfed.”

The accident happened around 2:11 a.m. Sunday near Hampshire, Illinois.

The total death toll is not known at this time, but one person was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries.

All westbound lanes have been closed near Milestone 33 to allow police to investigate

Traffic was diverted at Anthony Road.

The eastbound lanes have since been reopened.
