THE horrific spate of pitch invasions and attacks on players must be put down by football bosses and clubs.
After exciting and decisive games at the high point of the season, the jubilation is understandable. But a hardcore of fans, drunk, on coke, or both lost the plot.
Sheffield United skipper Billy Sharp’s headbutt was disgusting. So did the incitement of Palace boss Patrick Vieira by an Everton fan. The brutal intimidation of Swindon players by a Port Vale mob was truly frightening.
Field invasions are illegal. But we can’t enforce that with fences, nor expect a handful of underpaid stewards to hold back a flood of rampant fans.
It’s up to the clubs to get tough. . . with long bans, even lifetime bans, for the worst offenders. Police need to arrest and prosecute more of those whose on-field antics extend beyond dizzying celebrations.
Otherwise, the FA must penalize teams with fines and, in the case of repeated incidents, ground closures. Yes, this looks harsh for innocent followers.
But her anger is more likely than anything to control the jerks who would cause further damage to her club.
HOW depressing to hear US politicians rant about the Northern Ireland Protocol without knowing what they are talking about.
The superficial statements made by Joe Biden and current spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi appear to have come exclusively from left-wing opinion columns or the Irish government.
Pelosi even goes as far as threatening Britain, America’s No. 1 ally, over the trade.
She says we must not “undermine” the Good Friday Agreement, which is based on “ensuring that there is no physical border in Ireland”.
What an uninformed bilge.
The peace is only being undermined by the EU’s vengeful official scrutiny of the protocol, which even Sinn Féin admits has become “problematic”. Nonetheless, no one is proposing to erect a border.
And when Pelosi says “the children of Northern Ireland deserve a future free from the violence” of the past, who is she lecturing? Britain, not the US, was also a constant target of IRA slaughter.
Here’s a concept you CAN understand, Nancy: butt out.
Turning to eco-crusties is not only weak, it’s also incredibly expensive.
Digging fool ‘Swampy’ has set obscene £122m bill disrupting HS2 What a scandalous and pointless burden on taxpayers.
Meanwhile, the face-taping village idiots of Extinction Rebellion and their even more sinister cousins Insulate Britain have cost police a further £54million.
Why are the police spoiling her? Cart the pests into the cells as soon as they disrupt work or stop traffic.
It would be much faster – and cheaper.
