KINSHASA, Congo — Ndakasi, a mountain gorilla who famously posed for a selfie with a ranger at Congo’s Virunga Nationwide Park, has died at 14 after an extended sickness, the park mentioned.

“It’s with heartfelt disappointment that Virunga declares the dying of beloved orphaned mountain gorilla, Ndakasi, who had been beneath the care of the park’s Senkwekwe Middle for greater than a decade,” a press release from the park mentioned this week.

“Ndakasi took her ultimate breath within the loving arms of her caretaker and lifelong pal, Andre Bauma,” mentioned the assertion, including that she died on Sept. 26 following a chronic sickness during which her situation quickly deteriorated.

Ndakasi was simply two months outdated when rangers discovered her clinging to the lifeless physique of her mom who had been gunned down by armed militia in 2007.
